Cartridge Dust Collectors

cartridge dust collector for woodshop on roofCartridge dust collectors are the evolution of the baghouse collector. In lieu of long fabric filter tubes, a cartridge collector uses a pleated bag, providing a large amount of filter area in a much smaller package.

This system is provided with an on-line, pulse-style compressed air cleaning system to backflush the filter cartridges.

In most cases, the cartridges clean to a level of 99.9+% on dust with a particulate size of 0.5 microns or more.

A cartridge dust collector is best suited for dry dust with light to moderate loading. They can be mounted in different configurations, and some are even modular, offering future expansion and faster shipment.

Regardless of the configuration, these collectors have a significantly smaller footprint and height than comparable baghouses, making them easier to locate and maintain. Routine maintenance times are significantly reduced due to the accessibility of the filters.

Compared to other collector options, the housing is much smaller, requiring less labor and materials, making for a less expensive collector.

Benefits of Cartridge Dust Collectors

Cartridge dust collectors have several benefits over other types of dust collection equipment, including:

  1. High efficiency: They are highly efficient at capturing fine dust particles and can have a high dust loading capacity.
  2. Less noise: They make less noise when they work, which can be beneficial in some applications.
  3. Versatility: They can be used for a wide range of applications and industries.
  4. Low energy consumption: Some cartridge dust collectors use less energy than other types of dust collectors.
  5. Safety: They do not generate dust clouds when cleaning, which is a major concern in certain industrial settings.
  6. Cost-effectiveness: They can be more cost-effective in the long run, as they require less maintenance and replacement parts than some other types of dust collectors.
  7. High collection capacity: They are capable of handling high volumes of dust collection.

It’s important to remember that cartridge dust collectors aren’t good for all applications.

Talk to a reputable manufacturer or an authorized dealer to make sure the system is designed and installed properly to meet the needs of the application.

Drawbacks of Cartridge Dust Collectors

  1. Initial cost: They tend to be more expensive than some other types of dust collectors, such as cyclones, in terms of the initial purchase price.
  2. Replacement cost: The filter cartridges need to be replaced or cleaned periodically, which can be costly over time.
  3. Complexity: They are generally more complex and difficult to operate than some other types of dust collectors, requiring specialized training for maintenance personnel.
  4. Disposal: The filter cartridges can be difficult to dispose of and may require special disposal methods.
  5. Limited applications: They may not be suitable for certain applications, such as those involving high temperatures or corrosive gases, which may require other types of dust collectors.

What the difference between a baghouse and cartridge dust collector

A baghouse and a cartridge dust collector are both types of air pollution control equipment used to capture and remove dust particles from the air, but they have different designs and operating principles:

  1. A baghouse uses filter bags, such as woven fabric or felt, to capture dust particles.
  2. A cartridge dust collector, on the other hand, uses cylindrical filter cartridges, such as pleated paper or synthetic fibers, to capture dust particles. The gas with dust in it goes into the collector, and the cartridges filter out the dust. The cleaned gas exits the collector, while the dust particles collect on the cartridges. Periodically, the cartridges are replaced or cleaned to remove the collected dust.

Both have different cleaning methods: baghouses use shaking or reverse pulsing, and cartridge dust collectors use replacement or cleaning.

The choice between the two types of dust collectors depends on the specific application, dust characteristics, budget, and the client’s preference.
